A Day's Work




One day. Twelve hours. Three assignments. Three cups of coffee. One sandwich. One shower. Two changes of clothes. One tank of gas. One album on repeat in the truck. Being a newspaper photographer is remarkable-- the requirement to make something out of nothing, over and over again. When it works, it's thrilling. When it doesn't, it breaks your heart. Today, it worked. Tomorrow starts in six hours.

Cynicism Can Suck It, Volume V


Sometimes life isn't that complicated. It's warm and fuzzy. I haven't had many "Cynicism Can Suck It" moments lately, and that's partly my fault because I've let the stress of daily shooting wear me down a little bit. Don't worry; cynicism still hasn't won. For a Father's Day story coming up this weekend. For those of you who know me, this picture has two of my favorite things in the world: a kid and camo. Also, I like hugs. And you should too.

Doing the Daily


I've been back at work for a week now, and it's been a frantic jumble of daily assignments and filling in holes for stories running soon. Suddenly, it's summer-- hot, sweaty, exhausting summer. Let's see if I make it.
