Back in June, I went to a rodeo in Chesapeake. Nothing like the Dallas FFA rodeo, that's for sure. But fun anyway.

Ross Taylor and I worked together to produce this addendum to his tremendous work in a combat hospital in Afghanistan. Perhaps one of the greatest moments of this project was shooting alongside Ross at the Norfolk airport as Dave Shellington came home.

Smoke: A View from Above

Yes, the fire in the Great Dismal Swamp continues to rage, and I got to go up in a helicopter today with our talented intern Brad Vest the talented not our intern Andrea Morales who happened to be in town. So, so cool. I cannot overstate how amazing it is to be next to a wildfire. I'm going on vacation starting tomorrow. What a great way to start the weekend!

Sometimes people invite you in, and I think when that door is opened, you have to go through. I asked Portia at the end of photographing her son's birthday party, my second visit, "So, can I keep coming back to make pictures?" and she said, "Of course." I said, "Are you sure?" and she said "Yeah, I like it."
